FEMA Will Send Senior Response Official and a Regional Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT) to ‘Support Ongoing Operations’

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Regional Administrator Thomas C. Sivak and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine issued a joint statement Friday insisting that the national agency has been working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency since “day one” of the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. The agency added a Senior Response Official and a Regional Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT) will be sent to the site to “support ongoing operations” provide “ongoing assessment of potential long term recovery needs.”

Following continued discussions between the state of Ohio and FEMA regarding the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, Governor Mike DeWine and FEMA Regional Administrator Thomas C. Sivak issued the following joint statement:

“FEMA and the State of Ohio have been in constant contact regarding emergency operations in East Palestine. U.S. EPA and Ohio EPA have been working together since day one. Tomorrow, FEMA will supplement federal efforts by deploying a Senior Response Official along with a Regional Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT) to support ongoing operations, including incident coordination and ongoing assessments of potential long term recovery needs.”
