U.S. Senator JD Vance (R-OH) issued a statement on Tuesday following President Joe Biden‘s State of the Union Address.

Vance stated in a news release that Biden is responsible for wreaking havoc on the nation and “nothing the President said tonight will change this reality.”

On Tuesday, Joe Biden, the 46th President of the United States, gave the annual address before a joint session of Congress.

This is Biden’s second State of the Union address as he begins his third year in office after creating an environment of high inflation, financial difficulties, a border crisis, an FBI investigation into the discovery at various locations of classified documents Biden had retained from his time as a U.S. Senator and Vice President, and most recently, a delayed reaction to what experts have called a surveillance operation by China as a “rogue weather balloon” was allowed to traverse the entirety of the continental United States last week.

During the address, Biden boasted about his first two years and road-tested populist re-election themes, promising to “finish the job” on what he dubbed a “blue-collar blueprint to rebuild America.” He called for unity, pointing to the bipartisan successes of the past Congress. The president then claimed that his administration had cut the deficit by more than $1.7 trillion over the past two years, “the largest deficit reduction in American history.” He went on to tout the nation’s economic recovery, citing the creation of 12 million jobs, which he claimed was more jobs in two years than any president had ever created in a full, four-year term.

According to Vance, Biden’s term to this point has been nothing but “widespread misery.”

“The result of Joe Biden’s term thus far has been widespread misery across the nation. Ohioans know we are worse off today than we were two years ago, and we know Joe Biden is responsible. Nothing the President said tonight will change this reality,” Vance said.

According to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll 41 percent of Americans say they’re worse off financially today than when Biden took office. This is a record number of people, the highest percentage for any president in 37 years.

A separate Primerica analysis based on a poll of households with incomes between $30,000 and $100,000 reports that 72 percent of middle-class families think their salaries are lagging behind the cost of living, up from 68 percent a year ago.

Border policy under Biden is troublesome and disorganized. Of the many millions of migrants who have crossed the border since the start of 2021, over 600,000 have been released in the country without being detained or given a court date; thousands are even no longer being tracked by a program created for that purpose.

According to Vance, Biden’s incompetence has led the nation in the wrong direction.

“At home, Ohio families are struggling to afford food, housing, and other basic necessities. Thousands of our fellow Americans have succumbed to the fentanyl epidemic as a result of Joe Biden’s open borders. President Biden’s war on oil and gas has caused energy costs to skyrocket, and violent crime plagues cities across the country. Abroad, Joe Biden has failed to protect the core national security interests of the United States. His incompetence led to tragedy in Afghanistan, war in Europe, and an emboldened Chinese Communist Party,” Vance said.

Biden hasn’t formally announced his bid for re-election, but it is widely anticipated, and some lawmakers in the audience said that they saw the speech as something of a soft launch. Although, Biden touted the “advancements” he has made during his first two years in office two thirds of Americans say that the country is headed in the wrong direction under Biden’s leadership and a majority say they disapprove of the job he is doing as president.

The most recent Rasmussen survey shows a 10-point difference between his approval rating of 44 percent and his disapproval rating of 54 percent. The RealClear Politics average places his approval at 44 percent and disapproval at 51 percent.

According to Vance, the nation deserves better.

“The American people deserve so much better from our president, but we will never get that with Joe Biden in office,” Vance said.
