Nebraska Republican Sen. Ben Sasse is expected to step down in favor an educational role.

Politico reports that the senator would then become the next president of the University of Florida.

A frequent critic of former President Donald Trump, Sasse earned the ire of his state party, which issued a stinging rebuke of his positions in February 2021.

He loudly refused to vote for Trump in 2016 and berated the 45th president for “clearing out a peaceful protest for a photo op that treats the Word of God as a political prop” in reference to the clearing of Lafayette Square during a Black Lives Matter protest after which Trump posed outside an Episcopal church.
