Tennessee lawmakers are reacting after Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday at the age of 96. Her Majesty was surrounded by family at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace.

Congressman John Rose (R-TN-06) said in a statement, “Chelsea and I are saddened to hear of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s passing. She honorably served her country for more than 70 years with dignity, helped strengthen our longstanding alliance and trading relationship, and will be remembered for generations to come for her devotion to public service.

“The United Kingdom has been one of Tennessee’s closest trading partners due to the leadership of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as the United Kingdom supports thousands of jobs and purchases billions of dollars of goods and services made in Tennessee. Please join Chelsea and me in praying for the Royal Family and all of the United Kingdom,” Rose added.

Congressman Chuck Fleishmann (R-TN-03) wrote on Twitter, “Queen Elizabeth II was a true friend to the United States and the American People throughout her reign. My thoughts are with the citizens of the United Kingdom as they mourn their loss.”

Congresswoman Tim Burchett (R-TN-02) said, “Queen Elizabeth was beloved by her people and she kept a good relationship with over a dozen U.S. presidents during her lifetime. I know she’ll be greatly missed.”

Congressman Mark Green (R-TN-07) tweeted, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Our hearts are with the Royal Family and the entire United Kingdom. Her legacy, which spanned seven decades, will never be forgotten.”

Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) released in a statement, “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be remembered as a trailblazer and fearless world leader. An ally to the United States, her remarkable tenure spanned the service of 14 U.S. Presidents. Chuck and I extend our deepest condolences to the Royal Family and people of the U.K.”

Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) tweeted, “Chrissy & I extend our deepest condolences to the Royal Family and the British people on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen was a great friend to the United States & the American people for over 70 years.”

Congresswoman Dianna Harshbarger (R-TN-01) said, “My most heartfelt condolences go out to the British Royal Family today. Queen Elizabeth was not only a beloved leader and family member, she was an institution of fortitude and grace.”

Following the death of Her Majesty The Queen, her son Charles became King Charles III. In doing so, he released a statement, saying, “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family. We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world. During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.”
