A major truck manufacturing company will spend millions to expand its operations in Murfreesboro, according to the state government.
“Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart McWhorter announced today that Minnesota-based McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing, Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation [NYSE: OSK] company, will be investing more than $50 million to expand its manufacturing presence in Tennessee,” according to a release from the Tennessee Department of Economic & Community Development.
The move is expected to generate 230 new jobs in the region over the next five years. Overall Oshkosh, which is based in Wisconsin, employs 15,000 people worldwide.
McNelius specifically manufactures refuse truck bodies and concrete mixers, which it says are known for their durability and performance.
“Tennessee’s strong business climate and skilled workforce ensure companies can thrive. I thank McNeilus for its decision to establish operations in Murfreesboro, which will create more than 200 jobs for Tennesseans across Rutherford County,” said Gov. Bill Lee (R).
The company celebrated the announcement, too..
“We are pleased to add production capacity in Tennessee as part of the commercial segment’s accelerated growth strategy,” said Brad Nelson, EVP and president, Oshkosh Commercial. “The facility will provide advanced manufacturing flexibility, proximity to supply chain and the expanded workforce needed to accelerate technology and innovation, while expanding our footprint.”
Tennessee’s business and job growth continue to expand.
The Secretary of States office says the state has had 10 years straight of “uninterrupted year-over-year growth in quarterly new business filings” as of the end of 2021.
“The Tennessee Quarterly Business and Economic Indicators report issued by Secretary of State Tre Hargett’s office shows that 75,300 businesses filed over the past year and 17,117 entities filed in the fourth quarter of 2021,” that office said. “New business filings in the fourth quarter of 2021 grew 22.2% from the fourth quarter filings in 2020, marking six consecutive quarters of double-digit growth.”
