Liberal “fact-checker” PolitiFact denounced a claim made in a Saturday statement by Stacey Abrams (D) that Governor Brian Kemp (R) and Georgia’s House Bill 481 stipulates a warrant for the arrest of women who suffer a miscarriage.

“Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has not said he wants women investigated or punished for pregnancies that end in miscarriage. A six-week abortion law he signed said miscarriages are legal,” PolitiFact said.

“Just In: Stacey Abrams’ smear against Brian Kemp rated FALSE, #gapol,” Team Kemp said in a tweet.

The Georgia GOP also chimed in on the conversation.

“PolitiFact has given Stacey Abrams’ gross lie about miscarriages a ‘FALSE’ ranking. Once again, we will remind you that Stacey Abrams will say anything to get elected,” the Georgia GOP said Monday on Twitter.

Stephen Lawson, the senior communications advisor to Republican agricultural commissioner nominee Tyler Harper, said that when Abrams’ campaign lost Politifact, you know that the campaign has taken “lying and gaslighting to a whole new level.”

Republican nominee for State House District 82 Jenine Milum told The Georgia Star News that Abrams’ comment is “not based” on facts and “fabricated to scare voters.”

“She knows this and is spewing falsehoods anyway. Having had a miscarriage myself many years ago, I can tell you with complete confidence there is nothing in HB481 that comes close to punishing women like myself,” Milum said.

DeKalb County Republican Party Chairwoman Marci McCarthy told The Star News that Kemp was more “pro-women” than Abrams.

The DeKalb County chair stated that such deceit is not done with the priorities of female health care in mind.

“This is not advocating [for] women’s rights or advancing health care. In fact, Stacey Abrams is simply fear-mongering and spreading false information about having miscarriages and then being prosecuted for having an abortion, Georgia,” she said.

“It is a desperate attempt and scare tactic that will backfire and ultimately benefit Governor Kemp,” she added.
