CORNELIA, Georgia – Former U.S. Senator David Perdue made a surprise visit Wednesday to Habersham County Airport, where he criticized social media platforms run by the progressive-dominated tech companies of Silicon Valley for their silencing of conservative voices.
“This is what happens when the Left tries to take over, is they shut down the opposition voice. We saw it in Cuba, Venezuela, Russia. I mean, these are things that we have seen before and we’re not going to let it happen here,” Perdue told The Georgia Star News as the former lawmaker made his way to meet supporters during a campaign stop.
Perdue’s comment comes on the heels of the recent moves by billionaire magnate Elon Musk to acquire Twitter. Musk has vowed to make Twitter a place where both sides of the political spectrum are criticized evenly.
After the news broke of Musk’s initiated takeover, several conservative pundits say they saw large increases in their follower counts.
However, not all right-of-center figures have seen a boon in readership. One independent journalist told The Georgia Star News that YouTube cancelled nine of his channels as a result of posting videos about “forbidden” topics such as election fraud in 2020, the death of Jeffery Epstein, and the COVID-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Twitter suspended the account @2000mules. “Twitter suspends accounts that violate the Twitter Rules,” the company states on an empty page that was once the film’s Twitter account.
One Twitter user noted, “It took them all but 12 hours to do this.”
The account was officially linked with the recently released documentary written and directed by conservative talking head Dinesh D’Souza, a film that highlights the ballot-stuffing illegally performed by “mules” across several states.
Officially, Elon Musk does not take full control of Twitter until sometime in September or October, just weeks before the midterm elections.
