Members of The Republican Governors Association (RGA) are contributing money to assist Georgia Governor Brian Kemp’s reelection campaign.

This, even though former U.S. Senator David Perdue, also a Republican, has challenged Perdue for his seat.

The RGA did not respond to The Georgia Star News’ request for comment Friday or Saturday about why they chose to donate to Kemp over Perdue.

The Washington Examiner reported this week that RGA members have given $500,000 to Kemp.

“The RGA affiliate RGA Georgia 2022 PAC this week went on the air statewide with ‘Fight Back,’ a positive, 30-second spot extolling Kemp’s accomplishments and juxtaposing his leadership in Atlanta against President Joe Biden’s ‘out of control spending, skyrocketing inflation’ and ‘invasion on the Southern border,’” the publication reported.

“The RGA touted its fresh investment in Georgia as reinforcements for Kemp versus putative Democratic nominee Stacey Abrams. But Republican insiders say the infusion is also part of the group’s effort to help the governor beat back a GOP primary challenge from former Sen. David Perdue, who has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump.”

RGA members last week launched a new digital ad in Georgia that highlights a photo of elementary-aged school children wearing COVID-19 masks behind a maskless Abrams.

The five-figure ad is currently running on multiple social media platforms.

In a tweet, RGA members called Abrams “part of the Woke Mob” and said she “forgot to read the room as she was quite literally reading to the room.”

Members of the RGA, according to their website, work to elect and support America’s Republican governors.

Republican Vernon Jones announced last spring that he would run for governor to unseat Kemp, but he announced last week he will depart that race to run for Congress. He then endorsed Perdue’s candidacy.

Trump on Wednesday endorsed Jones for the state’s 10th Congressional District. The former president announced the endorsement via video.

U.S. Representative Jody Hice (R-GA-10) is currently running to replace Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

Republicans Patrick Witt and Mike Collins are also running for the 10th Congressional District. Witt, according to his Twitter profile, was a member of Trump’s post-election legal team. He also served as a senior official in the Trump administration.

Collins, meanwhile, owns a Jackson-based trucking company.
