Judge Michael Warren, who serves on the Oakland County Circuit Court, on Wednesday launched a campaign for a position on the Michigan Supreme Court.

Warren is seeking the Republican Party’s nomination for one of the two openings on the court, according to an emailed release from the member of the judiciary branch.

Explaining his inspiration for running, the judge cited recent rulings from the state’s highest court as his motivation.

“Recent Supreme Court orders and rules have revealed that the Supreme Court desperately needs a seasoned Justice who will root decisions in the practical realities of the courtroom, as well as conservative constitutional jurisprudence based on the Constitution and the law as it is written, as opposed to legislating from the bench,” remarked Warren. “I hope to bring that much needed perspective to the Supreme Court.”

Warren has served on the bench for almost two decades, gaining experience in different areas of law.

Furthermore, according to his release, he has already picked up the endorsements of former Chief Justice Stephen Markman, former Chief Justice Bob Young, Justice David Viviano, Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI-02), and Congressman John Moolenaar (R-MI-04).

He also co-founded Patriot Week, a movement to honor the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks and celebrate Constitution Day on September 17th. The creation has received bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate.

“Particularly in these difficult times, it’s important that everyone reflect on the spirit of America. It is that spirit that has guided our nation through difficult periods in our history – and it is that same spirit that will allow us to persevere through today’s challenges. I am thankful for all of Judge Warren’s efforts to spearhead this movement, and I am proud to partner with him and Senator Kennedy on this important resolution,” said Senator Gary Peters (D-MI), when introducing a resolution of support.
