A Minnesota gubernatorial candidate released a statement saying Governor Tim Walz (D) is trying to buy the election with “Walz checks.”

Qualls is a former candidate for Congress, who challenged incumbent Representative Dean Phillips (D-MN-03) in 2020. He is also the founder of Take Charge, an organization that believes that America works for all Americans, regardless of race or station.
According to KSTP, Walz announced the rollout of checks for individuals and families of up to $350. “Walz Checks,” as the payouts have been dubbed, are part of the recently announced package from Walz’s office, attempting to help expand economic opportunity.
Qualls said, “Governor Walz recently outlaid a spending proposal that would issue $150 checks to single filers and $350 checks to married couples with proposed funds reaching upwards of 2.7 million Minnesota households.”
“It is evident that Tim Walz is attempting to do everything he can to muster up support from a base that he has failed throughout his tenure as Minnesota Governor,” he said.
He continued, “Over the last year we have seen the damaging results that irresponsible spending can have on an inflationary economy, and ‘Walz checks’ are nothing less than an election year gimmick aimed at making people forget about the rampant crime and disparate education levels that have only gotten worse because of his policies.”
Qualls said that Walz is only able to think of the short term, and argued that the checks will do little or nothing in the face of current inflation rates.
Qualls said that instead of handing out money, taxes should be lowered so that all Minnesotans can experience some economic relief.
