Michigan’s Attorney General Dana Nessel (D) claims that two Bloody Marys on an empty stomach led to her being drunkenly wheeled out of Spartan Stadium on Oct. 30, while the University of Michigan (UM) played Michigan State University (MSU) in a rivalry college football matchup.

On Facebook, Nessel, Michigan’s top attorney, posted a photo of herself slumped over in her seat during the game, with a long explainer attempting to joke her way out of the incident, and noting that “my staff has pleaded with me to hire a crisis-management PR firm,” but that she would rather handle the explaining herself.

“Before the big game, I attended a tailgate on an empty stomach,” she said. “Much to my surprise, MSU tailgate’s tend to have more alcohol than food, so I thought it seemed like a good idea to eat 2 Bloody Mary’s, since as long as you put enough vegetables in them, it’s practically a salad. As it turned out, this was not a brilliant idea. Also, I might be a terrible bartender.”

She said she began to feel ill during the game.

“I laid low for a while, but my friends recommended that I leave so as to prevent me from vomiting on any of my constituents (polling consistently shows ‘Roman showers’ to be unpopular among most demographics),” she said.

She then admitted to drunkenly stumbling out of the stadium, before being relegated to a wheelchair and schlepped to her car where a designated driver awaited.

“I had a few folks help me up the stairs and someone grabbed a wheelchair so as to prevent me from stumbling in the parking lot,” she said.

At the end of the post, she apologized.

“I am human. Sometimes I screw up. This was definitely one of those times. My apologies to the entire state of Michigan for this mishap, but especially that Michigan fan sitting behind me. Some things you can’t un-see,” she said. “Sorry to all the people who have supported me for letting you down. I will try to do better.”

Tori Sachs, the executive director of the Michigan Freedom Fund, was not thrilled with Nessel or her explanation for the day’s events.

“Dana Nessel has been out of control for years and now admits it,” she said on Twitter. “The issue isn’t that she got embarrassingly drunk at our state’s most-watched public event, it’s that she is completely erratic, irrational, and lacks judgment.”

“Nessel is the top law enforcement official in our state and she is the exact opposite of what the people of Michigan deserve in their attorney general,” Sachs said.

Nessel was notoriously harsh in enforcing COVID-19 lockdown mandates.

She once asked the state police to have a restaurant owner who defied the state’s lockdown orders and remained open during the pandemic arrested before she made an appearance on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
