U.S. Representative Jody Hice (R-GA-10) this week called on Georgia legislators to appoint a special counsel to investigate alleged election fraud during last year’s presidential election in Fulton County.
Hice wants to defeat and replace Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Former U.S. President Donald Trump endorsed Hice for the position in March.
Henry County Superior Court Chief Judge Brian Amero this week did away with a lawsuit that alleged election fraud in Fulton County. Amero’s dismissing the case prompted Hice to call for legislative action.
In an email to his supporters, Hice said Raffensperger failed Georgia.
“To make it worse, after he [Raffensperger] refused to do his job, he actively undermined concerned citizens who tried to utilize the court system to get answers,” Hice wrote.
“My stance from the beginning has been simple: we need a real audit. It’s time now for our Legislature to take up this fight, and like has happened in other states, appoint a special counsel to finish this investigation.”
In his email, Hice linked to a video of him interviewing Cleta Mitchell, a member of Trump’s legal team.
In the video, Mitchell described Amero’s dismissal of the case as shocking. She also said Raffensperger bears blame for knowing about alleged problems in Fulton County in advance — and doing nothing about them.
“Once this lawsuit was filed, and then they started uncovering these things, things that his office should have been able to see. He [Raffensperger] has done everything he can to try to shut down this litigation,” Mitchell said.
Members of the nonprofit VoterGA wanted to inspect Fulton County’s mail-in ballots. This, after four senior poll managers signed sworn affidavits indicating they handled counterfeit ballots during the Fulton County hand count audit.
Mitchell, quoting witnesses, said people in Fulton County observed pristine and unfolded ballots. Raffensperger said state investigators found no counterfeit ballots.
VoterGA spokesman Garland Favorito said he and members of his team wanted to inspect the ballots before state investigators got to them.
The Georgia Star News asked Favorito if he trusted Raffensperger when he said state investigators found no counterfeit ballots.
“I think they made it up,” Favorito said.
“The secretary of state was already on record as saying this was the safest and cleanest election in Georgia history. They wouldn’t want to reveal evidence counter to his claim.”
During her interview with Hice, Mitchell said Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) agents did not investigate alleged irregularities in Fulton County, even though Raffensperger said otherwise.
