Tennessee Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) offered his support last week after Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) announced that he’s running for re-election in 2022.

Last week, Senator Grassley announced his campaign with a short video of him on an early morning run.

“It’s 4 a.m. in Iowa so I’m running. I do that 6 days a week,” Grassley’s tweet with the video said. “Before I start the day I want you to know what Barbara and I have decided. I’m running for re-election—a lot more to do, for Iowa. We ask and will work for your support. Will you join us?”

In another campaign announcement video, Grassley simply says he’s running for re-election because “it’s the right thing to do for Iowa.”

Hagerty retweeted Grassley’s announcement video and said, “Grateful for your leadership!”

Other GOP senators have also thrown their support behind Grassley.

Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) wrote on Twitter, “Not many people know this, but Chuck Grassley continued his 4 a.m. runs *while he had COVID.* He’s unstoppable. Iowa and America are lucky that he’s going to stay in the Senate!”

South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) applauded Grassley’s announcement, writing on Twitter, “Great news for the people of Iowa and the U.S. that Sen. @ChuckGrassley will seek reelection in 2022. I have served with Chuck my entire time in the Senate. He is one of the most hardworking, enthusiastic senators I have ever met with a wealth of experience and knowledge.”

Iowa Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) also joined in on the praise, writing on Twitter, “There’s no one I’d rather serve the people of #Iowa with. #GrassleyRuns, @GrassleyWorks, & #GrassleyDelivers—and Iowans know it. I’m with Chuck! Join me”

Chuck Grassley, 88, is the oldest Republican senator and the longest-serving Iowa senator. During his time in the Senate, Grassley has chaired the Senate Finance Committee, the Senate Narcotics Committee, the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the Senate Aging Committee.
