The Minnesota State Fair has asked a conservative group to remove a “disrespectful” caricature of Gov. Tim Walz from its booth.

Action 4 Liberty President Jake Duesenberg told Alpha News that he was asked to remove the display by the end of the day Friday.

The caricature depicts Walz as an overweight king taking a bite out of a drumstick with the word “liberty” written on it.

Duesenberg told the fair that the booth would have an image of “Gov. Walz in king’s outfit” when he applied for a license last month.

In a voicemail left on Duesenberg’s cellphone, a woman who identifies herself as the fair’s sales director describes the caricature as “very disrespectful.”

“We would like you to remove the caricature. I know that must’ve just recently gone up and we just find that very disrespectful to our governor, so can you please have that removed today?” the woman says.

At Duesenberg’s request, Alpha News has removed the woman’s name from the recording because he believes the decision was made by the fair’s top management.

Duesenberg doesn’t plan to take down the image and thinks the fair lacks the authority to force him to comply, which is “why they’re just asking us to do it,” he said.

“We’re making a valid political argument that Gov. Walz trampled on the rights of Minnesotans for the last 18 months, and he’s also doing it now against people who don’t want to get vaccinated,” added Duesenberg, who said his organization is being “silenced.”

He said the reception has been overwhelmingly positive.

“Our caricature is not obscene, it’s not pornographic. It’s in line with what we wrote in our registration form. We were up front with it,” he said. “I think what’s happened is people in the front office of the state fair have maybe been contacted by Democrats or the Walz campaign or they just feel different than us.”

Alpha News reached out to the fair for comment and will update this story if a response is received.
