David Belle Isle, former mayor of Alpharetta and candidate for Secretary of State in Georgia, filed multiple open records requests to examine documents related to the November 2020 election.
According to his interview with Breitbart News, the requests cover a wide variety of concerns about the security of the election — including items such as signature complaints, chain of custody documents for drop boxes, and surveillance videos for drop boxes. Belle Isle is utilizing Georgia’s Open Records Act to bring more transparency to the election process.
“When [Raffensperger] came out of the 2020 election, the first thing he says is that it was the safest, most secure election in Georgia’s history,” he explained. “Yet more and more things continue to unravel as we look and we see, and people are wanting to know and get to the bottom of it, and if you’re going to trust elections, there has to be transparency.”
Belle Isle pointed to issues within Fulton County — a population center of Georgia — as cause for concern. Recently, an official in the county told The Georgia Star News that “a few forms are missing” and that “some procedural paperwork may have been misplaced.”
Raffensperger had been reluctant to acknowledge the concerns over election security. However, after a series of reports from the Star News, Raffensperger agreed to investigate the missing chain of custody documents that Fulton County officials have failed to provide.
Former President Trump has also been frustrated with the questionable actions that have been recently discovered — highlighting the Star News reporting in a statement. Belle Isle agreed with his frustrations. He said, “I don’t blame him for being frustrated about Georgia. I think we’re going to find in the months to come, definitively, that Georgia got it wrong, that the results that ultimately were certified were incorrect.”
Belle Isle is one of several Republicans who are challenging Raffensperger in a GOP primary contest for Secretary of State.
